Three elves, Erar the barbarian, Cirin the knave, and Elas the seer are exploring a lost monolith in the center of a subterranean lake deep in the jungle. With their dwarven friend Fror the strider at their side, they must navigate a dangerous river, investigate an ancient holy site, and survive a deadly trap.
19 - "The Thran" by J. Robert King, Magic the Gathering series
Hello everyone, this is Meaghan. I know it’s been quite a while since I uploaded new content here, but that’s because I’ve been busy producing content for the Dragonlance Canticle podcast, owned and operated by the Dragonlance Nexus. If you want to listen to what I’ve been up to over there, just click here: The Dragonlance Canticle Podcast.
Since I took over that podcast, creating more Dragonlance content here seems a bit redundant. Therefore, I’ve decided to take this show in a new direction. Going forward, this show will be dedicated to horror gaming, meaning Ravenloft and Call of Cthulhu to start, but hopefully branching off into other games like Vampire and Alien RPG in the future. I’m planning to include segments on horror movies, novels, and video games as well.
In the meantime, I am going to be releasing the three patreon-exclusive episodes I recorded previously, starting with the Magic the Gathering novel “The Brothers' War” by Jeff Grubb.
And don’t forget, you can always listen to my history podcast “Death Zone” if you just can’t get enough of me. I currently have a six part series available on the first expeditions to summit Mount Everest, the disappearance of world-renowned climber George Mallory, and the theories surrounding his last days, including my own analysis of whether he might have submitted Everest thirty years before Edmund Hillary and Tenzig Norgay. You can find the link here: Death Zone Podcast.
Lastly, I am now running paid weekly games of D&D at Startplaying.games/gm/MissMeaghanJ using Foundry as my virtual tabletop. If you’re interested in playing D&D with me, please email me directly at danddbookclub@gmail.com or contact me on Twitter or Instagram at MissMeaghanJ.
Thank you all for your support and I hope you’ll continue along with me down this new road.

17 - "Heroes of Krynn", the Dragonlance Unearthed Arcana
What every Dragonlance fan has been waiting for has arrived! Well, sort of. It's an Unearthed Arcana titled "Heroes of Krynn", which has led Dragonlance die-hards to speculate that we may at long last be getting an official Dragonlance 5th Edition sourcebook. In this episode, I'll discuss the difficulties in translating the Dragonlance lore into 5th Edition as well as take a close look at the UA itself. Then I'll ask the big question: do we need a new Dragonlance setting book?

16 - "The Beginner's Guide to Critical Role" with special guest Shardae of the Slovenly Trulls
What is Critical Role? Why is everyone talking about it? What is a Vox Machina? I invited Shardae of the Slovenly Trulls podcast, who happens to be a certified* Critical Role expert on to the podcast to discuss the world’s most popular tabletop livestream game – how it all started, what has made it such a huge hit, and what impact it’s had on gaming and media. It’s everything you wanted to know about Critical Role but were afraid to ask. (*not a real thing)

"D and D Bookclub" is now "Unaligned'!
In case you’re wondering what this strange show is on your playlist, I have chosen to rebrand “D and D Bookclub” as “Unaligned”! I want to expand beyond Dungeons and Dragons and beyond books (although I’ll still be producing the classic content you know and love.) I just felt the show name was too limiting for this expansive new era. Listen to discover what's on the horizon.
15 - Ravenloft Domains: Souragne
Welcome to Souragne, a domain of pestilential swamps teeming with deadly wildlife, graveyards teeming with flesh-starved zombies, and restaurants teeming with all the boiled crawfish you can eat! This is the first episode of what I hope will be an ongoing series, dedicated to exploring the various domains of dread within the Ravenloft 5th Edition setting. In this episode, we explore Souragne, home of the murderous zombie lord, Anton Misroi, and setting for the classic 2nd edition adventure, "Night of the Walking Dead". I'll be discussing the history, geography, and themes of Souragne, as well as providing advice for Dungeon Masters to run their own adventure here. 13 - "Spectre of the Black Rose" by James Lowder and Voronica Whitney-Robinson, Ravenloft series
Lord Soth, the Knight of the Black Rose, rules the domain of Sithicus in the world of Ravenloft, but his grip on power is beginning to weaken. Forces from inside and outside his realm are uniting to overthrow him. The death knight has faced the Heroes of the Lance on Krynn and Count Strahd von Zarovich in Barovia without flinching, but a figure from his own past may be his ultimate undoing.

12.2 - Dragonlance and Feminism with the Slovenly Trulls, part 2
This is part two of my conversation with Lyssa and Shardae of the Slovenly Trulls Podcast. In this episode, we take a deeper look at three classic Dragonlance characters - Kitiara Uth Matar, Revered Daughter Crysania, and Takhisis, the Queen of Darkness. We'll be discussing the characters in the context in which they were originally created and then examining them through a modern feminist lens. My goal is to find a greater understanding of and appreciation for these characters while also trying to disentangle them from outdated literary tropes. 12.1 - Dragonlance and Feminism with The Slovenly Trulls
Shardae and Lyssa of The Slovenly Trulls podcast joined me to analyze the early Dragonlance novels through a modern feminist perspective to determine what holds up, what doesn't, and how reading your favorite novels and stories with a critical eye can teach you to appreciate beloved stories and characters in all new ways. 11 - "Knight of the Black Rose" by James Lowder, Ravenloft series
For centuries, the death knight Lord Soth had terrified the people of Krynn. Now something beyond the material world has taken notice. Lord Soth is drawn into the dark realm of Ravenloft, to the domain called Barovia, ruled over by the merciless Count Strahd von Zarovich. With the help of two new allies, Soth must escape the vampire lord and find his way home. In the Land of the Mists, however, home can be a fleeting thing. 10 - "Lord Soth" by Edo van Belkom, Dragonlance series
The death knight Lord Soth, the Knight of the Black Rose, is one of the greatest villains in D&D history - so popular that he started out as a Dragonlance villain and became a Ravenloft antihero! In this episode, we'll take a look at his origin story to see the roots of his evil and how a once noble Knight of Solamnia became a cursed warrior of evil. It's a bright day for fans of Ravenloft! We will soon be getting a Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition sourcebook called "Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft" to serve as an official campaign setting! It's still a few months away, though. In the meantime, get your Demiplane of Dread fix right here as we travel to Barovia and meet Count Strahd Von Zarovich in the very first Ravenloft novel - "Vampire of the Mists". Spoiler alert: if you plan to play the 5th edition "Curse of Strahd" module, you may want to skip this episode.
